Anti-Vegetarian Society of Meat Eaters Web Site

The Anti-Vegetarian Society of Meat Eaters (AVSME) isn't really opposed to eating vegetables; they make great side dishes for big juicy steaks, stuffed inside chicken breasts with cheese, or served with flavorful pork chops. AVSME isn't even opposed to the vegetarians themselves. But what grinds our nerves like Grade A ground chuck are the almost militant activities and comments from the most fanatical vegetarians and vegans. Carnivores and Omnivores are people, too.

We continue to see activist and political efforts aimed at being the "Kitchen Police," telling people what they can and cannot eat. This is to what we are vehemently opposed. The most liberal of people scream bloody murder when the government creeps into their bedrooms, but somehow these same people want to force steamed broccoli down our throats and snatch away our rib eye steaks. For shame, fanatical vegans! For shame. You will need to pry our meat from our cold dead hands.

Nutritionists know that meat is a good source of vital protein. Meat lovers know that meat is tasty and delicious. Sounds like a powerful combination to the Anti-Vegetarian Society of Meat Eaters. We fully endorse meat and meat byproducts as part of a well-balanced, nutritional diet.

How can YOU become a member of AVSME? Simply visit the AVSME sundry store and pick yourself up some AVSME gear and sign our guest book. That's all there is to it. If you'd like to kneel down in front of a fellow carnivore and allow that person to slap a raw pork chop on each of your shoulders and then again across your cheek, declare you an official member of AVSME, and then command you to rise ... that's fine by us, but it doesn't really make you any more or less of an AVSME member than those who simply buy an official t-shirt and sign our guest book. But, it could be a lot of fun. Be sure to wash all areas touched by the raw meat, as this is consistent with proper meat handling. And if you do decide to do this, please videotape it, upload it to YouTube and let us know about it.

What the hell?
"We continue to see activist and political efforts aimed at being the "Kitchen Police," telling people what they can and cannot eat."
Right. And what are you doing, exactly? Certainly not telling people what to eat...?
It's easy to be a vegetarian and get enough protein, iron, vitamen B, etc.
Also, risk of heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc. becomes way lower.
Of course, I would never tell people what they can and cannot eat...

The author has proposed no legislation dictating what people can and cannot eat. Unlike the militant vegans of whom he or she speaks. That being said, I am in support of AVSME and militant vegans can keep their grubby hands off my meat.

As do I.

Tell me this, where do vegetarians get the minerals and nutrients inherent in meat, such as protein? Do they get it from multivitamins, or protein-powder shakes?

I don't suppose you know where THAT protein comes from, do you?

Wonderful - I am glad to see this - these crazy vegans actually think they are making the world a better place? No, not really. For the farmers who are treating their animals with care, giving animals the animals love and kindness - vegans preaching to us is a slap in the face...I for one, am sick of it. I was a vegetarian for over 20 years, and let's just say they were not my healthiest years. You can support RESPONSIBLE, sustainable farming, and this will make a difference in the world. Soy is terrible for you, not to mention -- it is all owned by Monsanto - so if you "holier than thou" vegetarians want to do some real good, put grass fed meat back in your diet and some real milk. Forget soymilk, almond milk (what is this anyway but almond JUICE since milk comes from a teat), and rice milk...ugghhh....boring. Farmers need support, and the American family farm gets NO support from these wackjobs who think they're healthy, but realistically - they're robbing themselves and their kids of Vitamin B and much needed animal protein, fat is needed for brain development in young children. Can anyone say "PASS THE BEEF....RARE" -- also if I were meant to eat veggies, I would have a RUMEN and not a stomach. We would be grinding CUD. haha.....Thank you for letting a small family farmer speak out - we are what America was founded on, and on our way to distinction thanks to this group of militant freaks.

I am curious about what motivates the ad homonyms being directed at those who argue that if a being is consciously aware of their interests then they ought to be an object of our moral concern.

Terms such as "wackjobs," "freaks," "crazy," etc. are used without actually considering the substance of the animal rights philosophy. Indeed, if the substance were considered one would realize how baseless the argument for "privacy" is: any animal, non-human and human alike, that has interests ought to have their interests considered in our decision making - those decisions that are "other regarding." Therefore, questions of justice and basic rights arise, which suggests that your appeal to privacy is either fundamentally flawed OR it logically results in some troubling outcomes.

We should discuss this as opposed to "hands off my meat," an argument that fails to recognize that unlike gun ownership for target practice, for example, for you to eat meat somebody must necessarily suffer and die.

In order for me to eat meat, somebody does NOT have to suffer and die. I do NOT eat humans. The meat we eat consists of animals, and they are not 'somebody' but rather 'something' that God has placed on this Earth for our use.

Stay out of my kitchen, militant vegan!

I will refer you to a short post I wrote about biblical teaching regarding human animal and non-human animal relations - we were, of course, "created" as vegans:

http://www.not-quiteright.net/tvg/2008/04/we-were-created-as-vegans.html

I also think that Matthew Scully, in his book "Dominion: The Power of Men, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy," effectively challenges the argument that animals are our things to be used - they are in fact somebody's, with inherent moral worth. As Christians, Mr. Scully argues, we have a direct moral duty to non-human animals, which is in keeping with God's desire.

In all honesty, would you truly argue that your pet dog, for example, is no different than a rock? Really? Is it even moral to ignore the suffering of billions of non-humans; is it moral to justify this by suggesting that a stick is similar in kind to a bald eagle?

Again, you labeling me "militant" does not address the argument that supports bringing non-humans into our sphere of moral concern. You assume the invalidity of our argument prior to considering the argument itself. Why is this so? The ad homonyms are unnecessary.

Really, throughout this discussion - with the language and attacks being employed - who is militant, crazy, a freak? All we are asking for is a conversation about an issue of life and death, of suffering, of pain, of harming the type of being that is fully aware that they are being harmed.

If you are willing please join the conversation at my blog: http://www.not-quiteright.net/tvg/

or we can have a conversation here.

Who eats dogs? Who eats rocks? And who called you a militant? Apparently you assumed the title yourself. Kudos.

I asked the question about dogs and rocks in response to your statement that animals are not persons but mere things placed on earth for our exploitation. If X is a something it is not an object of moral concern; if X is a somebody, however, which I believe animals are, he is an object of moral concern. Therefore, I asked, it is not in dispute that a rock is a thing, however, I am disputing your claim that animals are things (e.g., dogs).

Again, to you, is there truly no difference between a rock and a dog? If you throw a rock against the wall, is this the same as throwing a baby dog against the wall? If not, why is there a difference?

You called me a militant vegan right here: "Stay out of my kitchen, militant vegan!" Or at least some other "anonymous" did. It seems odd that you would argue that I assumed the title myself when I it was clearly said in a response comment to my comment.

Here you are militantly forcing your beliefs on us, you are the pot calling the kettle black!!! You are putting so much energy in our vegetarianism you must know that what you do is wrong and have not the capacity to end your meat addiction. You complain about the fact vegetarians try and push their values on you??? What about the fact you meat eaters constantly push meat down everyone's throats and you agenda is forced upon us all from every direction!! I have never seen a commercial saying "Tofu, it's whats for dinner". Besides that how many vegetarians are destroying the planet to create grazing land for cattle? Your fanatical meat eating is hurting everyone and therefore it is not your right as no one has the right to destroy others well being to sate their palette. If the meat industry was not destroying tribes in south america and vital rainforests for grazing land I would not care about your meat addiction but the fact is you militant meat eating is killing us all. I could go on and on about meat eaters trying to force their beliefs upon us and the fact is your trying to force us to give up our vegetarianism and the constant barrage of your meat agenda is what creates the militant vegans!!!
Ok next there is no need for supplements if you do not eat meat. There is plenty of protein in vegetables it is a myth that you need meat to get protein. The human body has absolutely no need to eat flesh of any kind. But you will look for any excuse to continue eating meat when you know inside it is wrong. The worst part is I never tell anyone not to eat meat I always say "you have to realize on your own what is right I cannot change anyone" but ignorant blogs like this turn me into a jerk... Just like the author of this garbage...

The standard diet of a meat-eater is blood, flesh, veins, muscles, tendons, cow secretions, hen periods and bee vomit.
And once a year during a certain holiday in November, meat-eaters use the hollowed-out rectum of a dead bird as a pressure cooker for stuffing.
And people think vegans are weird because we eat tofu?
